Here's all I know about it, it is the Dukes Auto Club dragster from Spokane , WA at Deer Park Dragstrip. The driver was Earl Wham.
Maybe the more mechanically inclined can tell you, but to me it looks like they have two V* engines linked up in tandem. I'm just guessing that from the number of pipes I see coming out of that beast. I'll bet the drag gods themselves were impressed with the sound that thing must have made.

Yep and judging by the exhaust pipes it was a SBC.

If long headers build more power in the upper mid to high end RPM range, that thing is set up for at least 12,000 RPM.

There's a part of me that really hopes those pipes were taken out of a huge organ, and all tuned to play F sharp.

Doesn't matter too much how long they are since they never collect. Though if it were a 12000 rpm 572 v16 that'd sound beautiful.
